Act Like A Boss and Think Like A Consumer
Obviously many of us shop based on what we prefer to have. Pricing is not really an issue if we are thoroughly pleased with a product or service. In fact, pleased consumers quickly share with their own family and friends how delighted they are and encourage others to try it out as well. So, for many companies, we consumers have become walking advertisements because that company supplies something we desire in a manner that makes us happy. Not all consumers are looking for a bargain; but most are looking for a pleasant experience as they patronize companies.
Unfortunately, business practices have counter-evolved so much in the last several years that it has become difficult to be an appreciative consumer. You have to wonder if the offerings that some companies yield to their clients would be the same offerings given to their own families! It is my job as DOMINION’s CEO to act like a boss and yet endear clients to an experience that will bring them back time and time again. And for that…I’ve got to think like a consumer.
I ask myself the tough questions about what would help me stay the course and what would ensure that our clients are pleased with every DOMINION experience. I pride myself and company on giving our clients the comfort of thinking with their family and finances in mind. I am a consumer and I too want a very pleasurable experience for my dollars. I want my Whole Foods Market(TM) to be immaculately clean. I expect conveniently labeled aisles that make it easy to find the things I need. I’m elated to find the surprise extras that prove Whole Foods was expecting a shopper just like me! Who doesn’t love frequenting a company that cares about you as a person and not just a number?
To that end, it is vitally important for companies to think like consumers. Keeping you in mind makes big business human again. Yes, I’m the boss and I receive great joy from the work; but I think like a consumer in and for every transaction. I want an extended DOMINION family that makes our clients feel safe and secure in the fact that DOMINION sees each of them as the unique individuals that they are. Every one of our trips is thought through using a consumer-perspective model from planning, to pricing, to performance by our top-notch staff and vendors. We’ve found that there’s no good way to use a mass-market approach on our very diverse and unique clientele. Knowing and caring about that is what makes us, US.
